Case study for the application of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM 2000) the first chilean highway

Guillermo Thenoux, Soledad Lastra

This paper presents the results of the application of the new edition of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM 2000) to a Chilean Highway (Autopista del Sol). The results of the study permitted the development of both calibration tools and an adjusted speed-flow model for the analysis of the operation of chileanfreeways, and to compare them to the model proposed in HCM 2000. The results of the work show that a chilean freeway designed to the internationalstandards may be study and evaluated using the methodology proposed by the new Highway Capacity Manual (version 2000) although a djustment to thespeed – flow models are recommended.
